Vauxhall says there are “no security or design issues” despite a spate of the brand’s cars being cannibalised in the street.

The comments come after multiple cases of Vauxhall cars, especially Corsas and Astras, being stripped of their panels.

Cases of Vauxhalls being cannibalised have been reported across the UK.

However Vauxhall has denied there is anything about its cars that would make them susceptible to this kind of crime – other than the popularity of the models involved.

A spokesman for Vauxhall said: “There are no security or design issues with our best-selling Corsa.

“The Corsa has been a huge sales success since it was launched over 20 years ago, so there are proportionally more on the road than other less popular models.

“This is wanton vandalism, if a thief is determined enough they can steal parts from any make of car.”

Police have warned Corsa owners, in particular those who have higher spec models, to be vigilant.
