Vauxhall celebrated yet another successful year at Goodwood’s Festival of Speed, with record attendance at its Family Experience Area and scorching drives in two of its newest models on the famous hill climb.
The Vauxhall Family Experience area, with its unique, fun-filled activities fit for adults and kids alike, has grown in popularity over the three years Vauxhall has co-sponsored the event. And for 2017, more people flocked to the area than ever before.
Dominating the area was Vauxhall’s Service Station, where show-goers could learn more about new models, like the Insignia Grand Sport and Sports Tourer, in a fun and innovative way.
Children and adults could also put themselves in the driver’s seat of the new Insignia – well, virtually – thanks to a VR (Virtual Reality) activity, which gave ‘drivers’ a fun insight into the way OnStar worked, showcasing its many features.
Making a welcome return to the Family Experience was the Vauxhall Drivers’ Lounge, where anyone presenting their Vauxhall car key could enjoy free refreshments and take a break from the noise and heat of the Festival. A free crèche, ball-pool, selfie-booth, coconut tree climbing and football-inspired crazy golf course were all unique to Vauxhall’s area and helped engage more people than ever with the brand and its products.
And of course, this being Goodwood, cars were king, and there were no shortage of new Vauxhalls to see. As well as almost all models in the current range being represented in the Family Experience, there was a display of Vauxhall’s ‘Game-Changers’, which fitted perfectly with the event’s theme – ‘Peaks of Performance – Motorsport’s Game-Changers’.
Out on the track, the latest Vauxhalls wowed crowds. Star attraction was the final-edition VXR8 GTS-R, with nearly 600 horsepower from its 6.2-litre V8 engine – very Goodwood! A variety of high-profile media, including journalists from Autocar, Telegraph Cars, Evo and motoring.com.au in Australia lit up the rear tyres (see accompanying in-car video of the VXR8 on track) and wrote stories about the experience.
Also on track was our very own Chairman and MD, Rory Harvey, driving the all-new, 260 horsepower Insignia Sports Tourer 2.0-Turbo 4×4. ‘What a thrill to drive flat-out at one of the world’s greatest motoring festivals,’ said Rory after his first of two runs up the Hill. ‘The Insignia was so composed on the track, and with its trick all-wheel-drive system it felt as agile as a sports car. Best part was that I cracked over 100mph past the chequered flag!’
